A Message from our Council President 2021-23

July 1, 2021

Hello Long Beach Council Units!

What a surreal sixteen months this has been. But here we are, halfway through 2021, with a new school year just around the corner, and we are ready to PTA. Our Long Beach Council Unit PTAs are strong, flexible, and resilient, and are continuing to make a difference, supporting our students, families and schools in wonderful ways. PTA-ing is what we do. However, the reality is that doing it right now is not often easy or straightforward or even familiar—which can be kind of an overwhelming, scary thing. We are here to remind you that you are not alone. Long Beach Council PTA is here to help and we have lots of resources for you, including:

  • Facebook groups for LBCPTA leaders to make connections;

  • Virtual meetings with your Area Advisors and other presidents in your area so that we can share and learn from each other;

  • Our websiteFacebook, InstagramTwitter, and a monthly newsletter in the works to help keep you informed;

  • Trainings through our 33rd District PTA so you can learn how to become a stronger PTA leader and run your non-profit. We will include more trainings on our own website soon;

  • Meetings to share information and connect you with district and community leaders;

  • Personalized, one-on-one support—we’re just an email, text, phone call or zoom meeting away!

We have an incredible Council team this year, ready to empower you to continue doing amazing things for our students, our school communities, and beyond. Long Beach Council PTA is more than just a “pass-thru” PTA for our units. We are advocates too! We will be working hard to engage families and communities to advocate for all children, driving home PTA’s core values of collaboration, commitment, diversity, respect, and accountability.

In the words of Pulitzer Prize winning poet and civil rights activist, Gwendolyn Brooks:

We are each other’s harvest; we are each other’s business; we are each other’s magnitude and bond.

We couldn't think of a more appropriate theme for the next two years, as we focus on making the world around us more inclusive and equitable for all children. Working together, we can continue to make a difference. Thank you for your time and commitment to our children and PTA. We appreciate you!

Warmly,

Andrea Wader

President 2021-23
